Machu Picchu for Families

Peru at a family pace: the same real itinerary we run for everyone, stretched over nine days with a lower physical load, comfort hotels, and slack built in where families actually need it. The hard parts are smoothed out so the trip stays fun for everyone, not just the fittest person in the group.

Right for / not right for

Right for

  • Families with children or multiple generations
  • Groups that want the highlights without a punishing pace
  • Travellers who value comfort hotels and built-in rest

Not right for

  • Travellers whose main goal is a demanding trek
  • Anyone wanting the lowest-cost, no-frills option
  • Groups happy to move fast and skip the rest days

Sample itinerary

A starting shape, not a fixed plan. We tailor the days, pace, and hotels with you during planning.

  1. 1

    Arrive in Lima

Welcome at the airport and private transfer to your hotel in Miraflores. No agenda tonight; settle in at sea level before the highlands.

  2. 2

    Lima for families

The Larco Museum in the morning, downtime in the afternoon, and the Magic Water Circuit at dusk, reliably the day kids talk about for the rest of the trip.

  3. 3

    Fly to Cusco, then rest

Morning flight up and a genuinely restful first day at altitude. No sights scheduled; that is deliberate.

  4. 4

    Gentle Cusco

A short, flexible morning at Sacsayhuaman and the Plaza de Armas, with the afternoon free.

  5. 5

    Down to the Sacred Valley

Pisac's market and terraces at an easy pace, then a valley-floor night at a kinder altitude with space for kids to run around.

  6. 6

    Ollantaytambo and the train down

The fortress town in the morning, then the train to Aguas Calientes, an experience in itself for younger travellers.

  7. 7

    Machu Picchu, well paced

A guided visit on the confirmed circuit with rests built in and no racing, timed so the group arrives fresh. The classic view, at everyone's speed.

  8. 8

    Back to Cusco, softly

A slow morning, the train back, and a free evening. No early alarms today.

  9. 9

    Departure

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima and your onward connection.

Straight talk

A family trip lives or dies on pacing, not on cramming in sights. We deliberately leave slack in the plan. If you want a packed itinerary, this is not the trip, and that is on purpose.

Not sure this is the right trip for your group? The trip planner reads your dates, party, and pace, the route recommender picks the right circuit, and the AI specialist answers anything else. Or read how we work.

Common questions

What ages does this suit?
It works well across ages, from younger children to grandparents. Tell us who is coming and we will tune the pace and the rooms.
Is the altitude safe for kids and older travellers?
We plan acclimatisation carefully: a rest day after the flight up and the valley nights at lower altitude. Please share any medical considerations so we can plan around them; we do not give medical advice.
Can we slow it down further?
Yes. Extra rest days or a lighter Machu Picchu day are easy to build in.
