Machu Picchu Quest
Five days built around the mountain: Cusco's Inca streets and Sacsayhuaman, a day among the Sacred Valley's terraces and salt mines, then the Voyager train down the gorge to Machu Picchu itself. A night in the town below puts you at the gates early the next morning for the climb up Huayna Picchu, the peak that stands behind the citadel in every photo. Guided throughout, with transfers, trains, and the climb arranged as part of the trip.
The trip
Day by day
Day 1 · Cusco
Guided tour of Cusco & ruins of Sacsayhuaman and Puka Pukara
On arrival in Cusco you are met and driven to your hotel, with the rest of the morning free to settle in and give the altitude time to settle with you. The afternoon continues with a guided exploration of the city's most iconic sites, including the spectacular ruins of Sacsayhuaman and Puka Pukara. Towering stonework, sweeping views over the red rooftops, and Cusco's rich cultural heritage come together at a gentle pace, with every moment made to be savored.

Day 4 · Machu Picchu › Cusco
Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain hike
A self-guided climb, on whichever of the two peaks your dates allow. Huayna Picchu is the peak standing behind the ruins in every photograph of them: a steep hour of Inca stairs to 8,920 ft, looking straight down on the city. Machu Picchu Mountain is the longer, steadier climb to 10,111 ft, with the whole valley below. The afternoon is the train back to Cusco, running up the valley beside the river most of the way.
