Itinerary details

Day 1 - Lima

   Lima Arrival after 3pm

Welcome to Lima! Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel in the beautiful area of Miraflores. If time permits, venture out and begin to explore Peru's amazing culture and cuisine.

Day 2 - Lima

Rise for breakfast and a morning guided tour of colonial and modern Lima. After lunch, we will experience the Inca’s legacy at the Larco Museum. Lastly, we will visit a classic Peruvian Tavern for a glass of Pisco Sour and traditional Peruvian petite bouchées.

Day 3 - Lima / Arequipa

   Lima to Arequipa - Fly before 9:30am

Early morning flight to Arequipa; the “white city”. Welcome and transfer to your hotel upon arrival. During the afternoon you will enjoy a tour of the city and the Santa Catalina Monastery.

Day 4 - Arequipa / Colca Canyon

Depart from Arequipa to Chivay. During the drive, you will probably observe wild vicuñas and some birds such as; Andean goose, kara kara falcon, flamingoes, and black ibis. We will also stop at several lookouts for amazing views of the volcanoes Misti, Chachani, Pichu Pichu, Ampato, Sabancaya, and Colca Valley.

Day 5 - Colca Canyon / Titicaca

   Cusco to Lake Titicaca Bus

Morning excursion to The Cross of the Condor to observe the depth of the canyon and the majestic flight of the Condor. During the afternoon we will travel via tourist bus to the city of Puno (12,421 ft.). Tip: Amazing skies for stargazing in Puno.

Day 6 - Lake Titicaca

   Lake Titicaca: Uros & Taquile Islands

Today you will tour Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest lake navigable to large vessels. First you will visit the Uros Indians’ floating reed island (built on layers of totora reeds). The Uros still live as their ancestors did a thousand years ago. Then you will continue towards Taquile Island. This remote island is a remarkable community where Quechua, the language of the Incas, is kept alive by the islanders. The outstanding highlight of its inhabitants is their handicraft derived from techniques developed over centuries. Return to Puno in the late afternoon.

Day 7 - Titicaca / Cusco

   Lake Titicaca to Cusco Bus

Travel all day via tourist bus to Cusco (11,152 ft.). During our journey, we will stop at Pucara, Racchi and Andahuylillas.

Upgrade ($290): Travel aboard the “Andean Explorer” train by Orient Express - a 5 stars train experience. Available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays all year plus Saturday between April and October.

Day 8 - Cusco

During the morning you will enjoy a visit to the ruins at Kenko, Tambomachay, Puka Pukara, and Saqsaywaman. In the afternoon we will tour Cusco with its ancient cathedrals and amazingly crafted Inca walls.

DAY 9 - Cusco (Sacred Valley)

Today we will explore the Sacred Valley (9,350 ft) and experience the rich colors of its traditional towns and ruins. Our first stop after a scenic drive will be Pisac's colorful market – a great opportunity to practice your bargaining skills! After lunch, we will tour the town of Ollantaytambo and visit the site of the beautiful rose-colored stone ruins where the Incas fought the Spaniards. The serenity and quaintness of the town will allow you to relax and transition into the Incas magical world.

Day 10 - Cusco / Machu Picchu

   Cusco to Machu Picchu Train

Early morning transfer to board the train to Machu Picchu (7,875 ft.). This scenic trip offers great views of the mountains, river and sometimes a glance of the awesome Condor. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes we will begin our Machu Picchu tour. After the guided excursion you can continue to explore the Machu Picchu at your own pace or return to the town of where you can enjoy a relaxing evening or shop at the local market.

Option ($325): Hike a portion of the Inca Trail for a day and arrive to Machu Picchu through the Gate of the Sun. Tour of Machu Picchu would be the next day.

Day 11 - Machu Picchu / Cusco

   Machu Picchu to Cusco Train

Free day to return to Machu Picchu and continue exploring the sanctuary or hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. We will return to Cusco by train later in the afternoon.

Day 12 - Cusco / Amazon Basin

   Cusco to Pto. Maldonado - Fly before 10am

Enjoy an early morning walk in Cusco before your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, we will stop at the Lodge’s office in the town where you can store any excess luggage. We will arrive at the lodge after a 20-minute drive and a 45-minute boat ride which offers beautiful views of exotic plants, birds, and caimans. After dinner, we will participate in an ecotourism lecture by a professional guide.

Day 13 - Amazon Basin

After breakfast you can choose from several guided tours such as exploring the wildlife at Lake Sandoval. Once at the lake we will paddle searching for Giant River otters, caimans, hoatzins, and horned screamers. During the afternoon you can take an ethnobotanical tour that will expose you to botanical and medicinal wonders. After dinner, you will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active.

Day 14 - Amazon Basin / Lima

   Pto. Maldonado to Lima - Fly before noon

Enjoy a walk around the lodge before traveling to Puerto Maldonado to board your flight to Lima or continue on an extension.

Important Notice: Actual day-by-day itineraries may vary from those shown in order to take advantage of local sightseeing options, trains or flight schedule changes, or other unforeseen events.

Train to or from Machu Picchu: From May to December, train from Cusco to Machu Picchu and back will depart from Poroy station (about 20 minutes from downtown Cusco). For the period between January and April, trains will depart from Pachar station, about 1.5 hours from Cusco. Transfers are included for both options and total travel time is about the same.
